Start of our Summer Adventures

9th June 2012

Stewart came back to the boat after finishing my son's kitchen and the roof on our house, and we quickly loaded up the boat and took off on a very windy day to Braunston to meet our friends Pam and Dave.

Just before we stopped a few boats from their boat, the 'Iron Butterfly', something happened to the engine.  Stewart looked 'under the bonnet' and found the whole of the engine compartment full of oil.  Arghhhhhh!  Didn't realise we had such an expert as Dave awaiting us... he suggested we looked at the oil filter area.  Spot on, a connection nearby, which was supposed to be held by a support which had unfortunately broken, consequently the pipe had rubbed away and caused a burst.  Also, luckily we were near, not one, but two Chandlers and were able to get the parts we needed.

As a rider, the engine compartment remained a mess until a couple of weeks later when we were at Market Drayton.  A young man on a nearby boat who was helping with an engine on a boat next to us came by and, as boaters do, asked what Stewart was doing in the engine compartment.  When Stewart explained he was trying to clean it he jumped down and told Stewart to go off on the bike and get some nappies.  He was even precise as to what size.  He was right, they worked a treat for mopping up the oil and he did the whole job.  He wouldn't accept any money but we sat down to a meal together in 'Unruffled'.

Good result all round I think!
